To be fair, the last time I did this was several versions ago, but since I don't like having to reinstall something after I've just installed it, it left me with a bit of an aversion to PiaF. Both times I switched to another distribution on the same hardware and did not see the slowness return. On a personal note, I've tried PiaF a couple of times in the past despite the above objections, and both times I found it to be inexplicably slow at certain times. So neither of those distros may be best for people who know what they are doing and want to "own" their system.Ĥ. On the other hand, if you try to make changes in the FreePBX Distro, particularly anything affecting modules, you may start receiving security notices due to their new security mechanism. When you make changes in your system, and then later run a PiaF upgrade script to make sure you have the latest everything, it may undo some of the changes you've made without warning you, therefore causing things to stop working and you won't immediately know why. And if you make changes to accommodate them, you might be bitten by this next one.ģ. The PiaF approach to security can best be described as "ultra secure" or as some have described it, "ultra paranoid", which is fine if you are running a local system that has no users outside the local network, but can cause you grief if you have external users at remote locations.

Also I must say that the the FreePBX Distro is just as bad in a similar way they install just about every module they can by default, including some that you have to pay to activate (which, IMHO, should not be installed by default - and one, Sipstation, can't be removed from the GUI you have to do a magic incantation from the command line to vanquish it!).Ģ. This more applies to the "Incredible" builds than PiaF itself. It includes too much stuff that no one will ever use regularly after maybe trying it once or twice.
